Post Production Details


  1. Starting a project


  • All projects are to be saved in Videodisk03 or Videodisk04.

  • Ensure that capture scratch and render files are designated to the right Videodisk.

  • Project folders are to be created in the project resources folder of respective Videodisk.



    2. Digitizing of video clips


  • Digitizing can be done in any of the mac available.

  • Long period of digitizing are to be done at G5 machine to free up editing suite.

  • Ensure that capture scratch and render files are designated to the same Videodisk as the

    project folder.

  • Unless otherwise requested, all footages are to be logged and captured instead of live

    capture.


3. Music Selection


  • Other than original composed music catered for the video, library music can be used

    online and from the audio cds provided.

  • Online music library requires the user to key in the user name and password.

  • 2 main websites used are http://www.bigbangfuzz.com/ and http://www.playkpm.com/.

  • Music downloaded from website or audio cds must be converted to aiff, 16bit, 48kHz

    before importing into Final Cut Pro for editing.

  • After retrieving and converting music especially the ones from the audio cds, the music

    file need to be relabelled for easy future retrival. Files are to be relabelled as such;

    Music Library name_CD name_CD number_track number_track name.


    4. Laying of audio shots in FCP timeline for online and offline edit


  • Video - Track 1 : Main Host/ SOTs

- Track 2 : Cutaways

- Track 3 onwards : Graphics/ Text-on-screen



  • Audio - Track 1 : VO/ SOTs

- Track 2 : VO/ SOTs

- Track 3 : Ambience

- Track 4 : Ambience

- Track 5 : Sound Effects

- Track 6 : Sound Effects

- Track 7 onwards : Music


  • Audio track 3 to 6 can be replaced with music if ambience and sound effects are not

    used.



    5. Project Backup


  • All completion of projects requires the editor to backup projects into designated

    harddisk.

  • Files to be backed up are mainly

  1. the latest FCP files

  2. animation and graphics files such as photoshop files or After Effects files

  3. animations or graphics files (eg, mov, jpg, png etc)

  4. music other than library music

  5. self-contained movie of edited video/s (with effects, text-on-screen etc)

  6. self-contained movie of video/s (superless, no effects)

     

  • After transferring all backup files into the harddisk, the video needs to be encoded to

    smaller files for showreel purposes. Below are the specifications to be used (based on a

    4X3 video).

  • 1. For videos that are 5 mins or less (480 X 360 wmv & h264)

2. For videos that are more than 5 mins (320 X 240)

3. For videos more that 20 mins (case by case basis)


  • The encoded small clips of videos are to be put together with other videos in the

    Mindstaff network, under M&M Showreel folder, in a subfolder labelled as “video”.

  • Editors are to record details of projects for invoice purpose.

  • The Project Record file to be filled in can be found in Mindstaff network, under

    General Admin folder.

  • Projects that have been backed up will be labelled in grey coding in its respective

    project resources folder and capture scratch folder.

  • Editors are to add the date of backup/ completion after the project name in the

    respective project folders so that future editors will be able to identify how old the

    project is.

  • These files in grey coding can be deleted after 6 months of project completion date.
